what is it for?

a full screen timer puts a countdown on a plain background with nothing else on the screen, so it is easy to see from across a room. teachers put one on a projector for a timed activity, speakers keep one on a laptop facing the stage, and people use one on a spare screen during exams, workouts or a cooking marathon. it is the same countdown as our countdown timer, with the full screen button front and centre.

how do you make it fill the screen?

set the minutes and seconds, or switch to a time of day, then press the full screen button under the timer. the countdown and its controls move to the middle of an otherwise empty screen, a little larger on big displays. press the button again or the escape key to go back. the timer keeps running either way, and the time left also shows in the browser tab.

does it work on a phone?

on Android and on most laptops and desktops, yes. Safari on iPhone does not let web pages go full screen, so the button only appears in browsers that support it. on an iPhone, turning the phone sideways still gives you a big ring.

what happens at zero?

a soft chime plays and the screen shows time's up, with a button to start over. for a countdown you can see shrinking instead of reading, try the visual timer, which also has a full screen mode.
