study timer
pick a split, press play, and let the chime keep track of breaks.
which study split should you pick?
this is the same timer as the homepage, with three splits that suit revision. 25/5 is the classic pomodoro: easy to start on a reluctant day and good for flashcards, problem sets and anything you can chip away at. 45/15 gives a longer stretch for reading a chapter or working through past papers, with a proper break to match. 50/10 fits neatly into an hour, so it lines up with a timetable. custom lets you set your own.
our guide to the best pomodoro intervals for studying goes through each of these and when it tends to work.
what does the timer do while you study?
it counts down the work block, chimes, then counts down the break, and keeps going until you pause it. after four focus rounds it suggests a longer rest. the time left shows in the browser tab, so you can switch to your notes and still see it. each finished focus block is saved to your stats in this browser.
should you study with background noise?
some people do better with a steady sound and some do better in silence. the brown, pink and white noise buttons under the timer let you test it without opening another app. white noise for studying covers what the research does and doesn't say.
what should you do in the breaks?
get away from the screen. stand up, drink water, look out of a window. scrolling your phone tends to make the next block harder to start, not easier.
